During the holidays I think it's pretty common to think of holidays past when you're buying presents, baking or putting up your decorations. The best part of putting up the tree is the story behind the ornaments. Who are they from, where did we get them, or who made them? To me, this is one of the gifts of the holidays — remembering the stories collected and cherished over the years.
Yesterday, I had a dad and daughter come to my Holiday Open House to find a gift for his wife and her mom. They came with pictures from my website on their phones, so they knew what they were looking for. It was so sweet that they came to shop for their special gift.
This brought back memories of me going with my Dad to find my Mom's gift for Christmas. Back then we didn't have the web, so we went out shopping to a store. We usually went to a store called Chapmans. It was truly a magical experience. The store was like walking into Christmas with all the holiday decorations. We knew we'd find a special gift for my Mom there. The best part was being with my Dad. We had so much fun finding just the right gift. I can still remember how excited I was for her to open up this gift. Now, my daughter goes with my husband to find my gift. She loves doing this with her Dad.
As your holiday season progresses, my wish for you is that your holiday is full of small moments like this.
